Lyrics

I had my rent-a-car flyin' down a two-lane road

I was driving a rental car quickly down a two-lane road.

Late for my plane again

I was running late for my flight.

Had to stop for some gas at this country store

I had to stop at a rural gas station to refuel.

That's when I saw the old man

At the gas station, I noticed an elderly man.

He was kicked back workin' on a big RC

The old man was relaxing, working on a large remote-controlled device (RC).

Watchin' Gomer Pyle on his little TV

He was watching the TV show "Gomer Pyle" on a small television.

Took him awhile to even notice me

It took him some time to acknowledge my presence.

Sittin' there I thought to myself

Sitting there, I reflected on the situation.

Old man (Old man)you got one up on me

I thought to myself that the old man had an advantage over me.

I'm still lookin' for my shady tree

I am still searching for a place of peace and relaxation (shady tree).

With your two gas pumps and your color TV

Describing the gas station with two pumps and a color TV.

Your satisfied as you can be

Old man (Old man)I guess you got one up on me

I acknowledge that the old man has an advantage over me.

Well he finally strolled over with a big 'ol smile

The old man approached me with a cheerful expression.

Said "How ya doin, son?"

He greeted me and asked how I was doing.

I said "Give me five dollars worth as fast as you can...

I requested a quick fuel fill-up because I was in a hurry.

'cause I'm really in a run."

I emphasized the urgency of my situation.

He said "What's your hurry on a day like this?

The old man questioned my rush on such a beautiful day.

If you move too fast, there's a lot you'll miss

He advised that moving too fast might cause me to miss out on a lot.

If you want to see what the good life is

He suggested that experiencing the good life requires taking the time to appreciate it.

Just get out and visit awhile."

The old man encouraged me to get out and spend some time with him.
