As the fam began to celebrate
Family members started celebrating.
Enemy already set the bait
An adversary has already set a trap or scheme.
The oldest son was the only one not present
The eldest son was not present at the celebration.
We find him busy working the field with a spirit of resentment
The eldest son is working in the field with a resentful attitude.
See, his little bro cut ties to live in recklessness
The younger brother severed ties and embraced a reckless lifestyle.
Told the Father to hand over his settlement
The younger brother demanded his share of the inheritance.
Some say he should've been stoned for this behavior
Some suggest he should be punished for his behavior.
But the Father showed mercy with hopes that this would change him
The father showed mercy, hoping for a positive change.
The younger son left down the road off the map
The younger son left for an unknown destination.
He left the older brother alone at home to hold the bag
The older brother is left to manage affairs at home.
The sudden return got folks looking like they don't know how to act
The sudden return of the younger son surprises everyone.
You can imagine the older bro is knowing that & ain't holding back
The older brother is aware and not holding back his emotions.
His anger bottled up like somebody shook a soda can
The older brother is extremely angry, comparing it to a shaken soda can.
Can't believe they let'em walk up in here like he don't owe his dad
He can't believe the younger brother is allowed to return without consequences.
I heard he blew all his funds, but you already knew that he'd come
Knowledge of the younger brother's extravagant spending.
As the work day finished, music grew louder
As the work day ends, the celebration becomes louder.
The older son drew near to the sounds, but
The older brother approaches but doesn't enter the celebration.
Rather than to enter he pulled aside a servant
Instead of entering, he questions a servant about the purpose of the party.
Asked about the party trying to determine the purpose
Curious about the reason behind the celebration.
When he heard it was celebrating the young rebel
Learning that the celebration is for the rebellious younger brother.
Bitterness within began to rage just like a devil
Bitterness and anger arise in the older brother.
Instead of offering peace to his sibling he refused to partake in the festivities
He refuses to participate in the festivities, avoiding reconciliation.
Entreated by his father to humble himself and come inside
The father urges him to join the celebration and humble himself.
His answer was no surprise filled with presumptive pride
The older brother's response is predictable and filled with pride.
How he served for years & didn't disobey
He emphasizes his years of faithful service without disobedience.
But never received even a goat to his disdain
Despite his service, he feels neglected and hasn't received any special treatment.
Accusations of favoritism mind set of a victim
Accusations of favoritism and a victim mentality.
Deep seeded hatred within him allow me to explain this depiction
Deep-seated hatred is explained as a depiction of his mindset.
God is the Father rich in mercy toward His children
A comparison to God as a merciful Father to His children.
Treating both sons as equal although different conditions
God treats both rebellious and self-righteous individuals equally.
The younger a rebel the older is self righteous
The younger son is rebellious, while the older is self-righteous.
Many shocked at the Father's reaction priceless
Many are surprised by the father's unexpected reaction.
See both of'em were separated from the Father at heart
Both sons are distant from the father emotionally.
Jesus illustrates this instance describing the distance apart
A parallel with a biblical instance describing emotional separation.
Pharisees say this man receives sinners and eats with them
Pharisees criticize Jesus for associating with sinners.
Many left His Presence once He began to teach to them
People leave Jesus' presence when He teaches about accepting sinners.
