Ancestors of the Lake
Echoes of Ancient Souls: Ancestral Reflections in Appalachian Winter's MelodyLyrics
This lake; these lands I stand upon
This lake and the lands I'm standing on.
Have an age - an epoch that can't be known
They possess an age or epoch beyond comprehension.
They bear ancient names
These places carry ancient names.
The only remnants of those here before
They are the only traces of those who were here before.
I like to think that the ravens who come
I like to imagine that ravens bring the souls of the departed back to their homeland.
Bear their wayward souls back to this land they called home
These souls once called this land home.
But likely these are only ravens
However, these ravens are likely just ordinary birds.
And nothing more
And nothing more.
I like to think that every raindrop that falls here
I like to think that every raindrop here is a tear of the ancient ones returning home.
Are their tears returning home - that they may weep no more
These tears symbolize a cessation of their sorrow.
But likely they are only raindrops
But in reality, these are likely just raindrops.
And nothing more
And nothing more.
I like to think after I yield forth my last breath
I like to believe that after I die, my spirit will join the ancient ones in singing to the mountains.
That my spirit will join those ancient ones
Joining in a collective song dedicated to our cherished mountains.
In song to our beloved mountains
However, that day will likely lead to our transformation into dust.
But likely that day
We shall all be dust
We will all become dust on that day.
And nothing more
And nothing more.
