Salt of the Earth
Toasting Humanity: Celebrating the Unsung HeroesLyrics
I wanna drink to the hard working people
I want to celebrate and acknowledge the hardworking individuals.
Let's drink of the lowly of birth
Let's also recognize and honor those who come from humble beginnings.
I wanna raise my glass to the good and the evil
I wish to raise my glass in tribute to both the virtuous and the wicked.
Let's drink to the salt of the earth.
Let's toast to the common people, the backbone of society.
Say a prayer for our hard fighting soldiers
Offer a prayer for the brave soldiers engaged in challenging and life-threatening duties.
Give some thought to their life-risking work
Reflect on the risks these soldiers undertake in their line of work.
How about a prayer for their spouses and children
Extend thoughts and prayers to the spouses and children of the soldiers who maintain the home front.
They keep the homefires burning and still till the earth.
These families endure the challenges while continuing to cultivate the land.
And when I search the faceless crowd
When observing the crowd without distinct faces,
A swirling mass of gray, black and white
A diverse mass of people represented in various shades,
They don't look real to me
They seem unreal and distant to the speaker.
In fact, they look so strange.
In fact, they appear peculiar and unfamiliar.
Raise your glass to the hard working people
Raise a glass in honor of the hardworking people yet to be acknowledged.
Let's drink to the uncounted heads
Let's toast to those whose contributions go unnoticed.
I wanna make a toast to the wavering millions
I want to make a gesture of goodwill to the countless individuals who face uncertainty.
We need leaders but get gamblers instead.
We require leaders, but often end up with risk-takers instead.
Spare a thought for the stay-at-home voter
Show consideration for the voter who stays at home,
Whose empty eyes gaze at reality shows
Whose vacant gaze is fixed on reality television shows.
And a stream of gray suited grafters
Amid a stream of politicians in gray suits offering limited choices,
Give you a choice of cancer, HIV or who knows.
People are presented with options that may be harmful, represented metaphorically by diseases like cancer and HIV.
And when I look into the faceless crowd
When looking at the faceless crowd again,
A swirling mass of grays, black and white
A swirling mass of people in shades of gray, black, and white,
They don't even look real to me
They still appear distant and surreal to the speaker.
In fact they look so strange.
In fact, they seem remarkably strange.
Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's raise a glass to the yet unacknowledged hardworking individuals.
Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Let's celebrate and honor the common people, the foundation of society.
I wanna give a toast to the millions of people
I want to offer a toast to the millions born with humble beginnings.
Those who are born humble of birth.
Those who, despite their modest origins, contribute significantly to society.
Let's drink to the hard working people
Let's raise a glass to the often overlooked hardworking individuals.
Let's think about the lowly of birth
Let's contemplate and acknowledge those from less privileged backgrounds.
Let's spare some kind of thought for all homeles people
Let's spare some thoughts for the homeless population.
Let's drink to the salt of the earth.
Let's toast to the common people, the unsung heroes of society.
