Lyrics

I hear the train a comin'

I perceive the sound of an approaching train.

It's rollin' 'round the bend,

It's moving around the bend.

And I ain't seen the sunshine,

I haven't seen sunlight for an extended period.

Since, I don't know when,

Since a time I can't recall.

I'm stuck in Folsom Prison,

I am confined in Folsom Prison.

And time keeps draggin' on,

Time passes slowly while I'm here.

But that train keeps a-rollin',

Nevertheless, the train continues its journey.

On down to San Antone.

Heading down towards San Antone.

When I was just a baby,

During my infancy,

My Mama told me, "Son,

My mother advised me, "Son,

Always be a good boy,

Always maintain goodness,

Don't ever play with guns,"

Never engage with guns."

But I shot a man in Reno,

Despite that counsel, I shot a man in Reno.

Just to watch him die,

Merely to witness his demise.

When I hear that whistle blowin',

Upon hearing the train whistle,

I hang my head and cry.

I bow my head and weep.

I bet there's rich folks eatin',

I presume wealthy individuals are dining,

In a fancy dining car,

In an elegant dining car.

They're probably drinkin' coffee,

They're likely sipping coffee,

And smokin' big cigars,

And smoking large cigars.

But I know I had it comin',

However, I acknowledge my deserving fate,

I know I can't be free,

I understand I can't attain freedom.

But those people keep a-movin',

Yet, those people keep moving forward,

And that's what tortures me.

And that's the source of my torment.

Well, if they freed me from this prison,

If released from this confinement,

If that railroad train was mine,

If I possessed that railroad train,

I bet I'd move it on a little,

I would undoubtedly move it a bit,

Farther down the line,

Farther down the track.

Far from Folsom Prison,

Away from Folsom Prison,

That's where I want to stay,

That's where I desire to remain.

And I'd let that lonesome whistle,

And I would allow that forlorn whistle,

Blow my Blues away.

To blow away my blues.
