This is the story of El Lute

This song narrates the life of El Lute.

A man who was born to be hunted like a wild animal

El Lute was destined to be pursued like an untamed animal due to his poverty.

Because he was poor

His poverty was the reason for his societal persecution.

But he refused to accept his fate

Despite his circumstances, he resisted accepting his predetermined destiny.

And today his honor has been restored

Eventually, his honor was redeemed.


He was only nineteen and he was sentenced to die

At nineteen, he was sentenced to death for a crime falsely attributed to him.

For something that somebody else did and blamed on El Lute

He was framed for an act committed by someone else.

Then they changed it to life and so he could escape

His sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, allowing him to escape.

From then on they chased him and searched for him day and night

Subsequently, authorities relentlessly pursued him day and night across Spain.

All over Spain but the search was in vain for El Lute

Despite the widespread search, El Lute remained elusive.


He had only seen the dark side of life the man they called El Lute

El Lute's life was overshadowed by hardship and adversity.

And he wanted a home just like you and like me

Similar to others, he desired a home and freedom.

In a country where all would be free

He aspired for a country where freedom was universal.

So he taught himself to read and to write it didn't help El Lute

Despite self-education, it didn't alleviate El Lute's plight.

He was one who had dared to escape overnight they had to find El Lute

He managed a daring escape but remained a target for authorities.


No one gave you a chance in the Spain of those days

In that era, opportunities were scarce for individuals like El Lute in Spain.

On the walls every place they had put up the face of El Lute

El Lute's image was widely posted as a wanted criminal.

And he robbed where he could just like once Robin Hood

He resorted to theft akin to Robin Hood, taking from the affluent.

They finally caught him and that seemed the end

His capture seemed to signify his end.

But they caught him in vain 'cause a change came for Spain and El Lute

However, Spain underwent changes leading to a shift in El Lute's fate.


He had only seen the dark side of life the man they called El Lute

El Lute's life was defined by hardship and struggle.

And he wanted a home just like you and like me

Similar to common desires, he longed for a home and freedom.

In a country where all would be free

He dreamt of a nation where everyone enjoyed liberty.

And then freedom really came to his land and also to El Lute

Eventually, freedom arrived in his country, impacting El Lute's life positively.

Now he walks in the light of a sunny new day the man they called El Lute

Now, he lives in a new era of brightness and freedom.
