Winter's Lament: Battling Nature's Fury and Loss in Brent Lamb's 'Wolves'Lyrics
January's always bitter
January is typically harsh or challenging.
But Lord, this one beats all
But this particular January is especially difficult.
The wind ain't quit for weeks now
The wind has been relentless for weeks.
And the drifts are ten feet tall
Resulting in snowdrifts reaching ten feet in height.
I been all night drivin' heifers
The speaker has been driving cattle all night.
Closer in to lower ground
Moving them closer to lower ground, possibly for safety.
Then I spent the mornin' thinkin'
The morning was spent reflecting on the victims attacked by wolves.
'Bout the ones the wolves pulled down
Thinking about individuals attacked or harmed by wolves.
Charlie Barton and his family
Charlie Barton and his family said their goodbyes.
Stopped today to say goodbye
They are leaving due to financial issues with the bank.
He said the bank was takin' over
Bank foreclosure due to several dry years.
The last few years were just too dry
The speaker promised to visit them once they settle in town.
And I promised that I'd visit
Reflecting on visiting those affected after their move.
When they found a place in town
Continuing thoughts about those harmed by wolves.
Then I spent a long time thinkin'
Spent considerable time reflecting on the victims.
'Bout the ones the wolves pull down
Continuing thoughts about individuals harmed by wolves.
Lord, please shine a light of hope
Requesting divine intervention for struggling individuals.
On those of us who fall behind
Hoping for assistance for those falling behind in life.
And when we stumble in the snow
Asking for help while facing difficulties.
Could you help us up while there's still time
Requesting aid before it's too late.
Well, I don't mean to be complainin'
Expressing dissatisfaction without intending to.
LordYou've always seen me through
Acknowledging faith in divine support.
And I know you got your reasons
Recognizing the unknown reasons behind divine actions.
For each and every thing you do
Accepting the mysteries of divine plans.
But tonight outside my window
Hearing a sorrowful sound outside the window.
There's a lonesome, mournful sound
Describing a mournful, lonely atmosphere.
And I just can't keep from thinkin'
Continuing to think about those harmed by wolves.
'Bout the ones the wolves pull down
Ongoing thoughts about victims attacked by wolves.
Oh Lord, keep me from bein'
Pleading not to become a victim of circumstances.
The one the wolves pull down
Fearing becoming prey to life's challenges.
