I Am What I Am
Embrace Individuality: "I Am What I Am" by Brian Calhoon and Julian LoidaLyrics
I am what I am
I acknowledge and embrace my true self.
I am my own special creation.
I am a unique and special individual created on my own terms.
So come take a look,
Invite others to observe and understand who I am.
Give me the hook or the ovation.
Whether through criticism or applause, acknowledge me for who I am.
It's my world that I want to have a little pride in,
I want to take pride in the world I've created for myself.
My world, and it's not a place I have to hide in.
I don't want to hide in my own world; I want it to be a source of pride.
Life's not worth a damn,
Life seems meaningless until I can express my true self.
'Til you can say, "Hey world, I am what I am."
True fulfillment comes when I can declare to the world, "This is who I am."
I am what I am,
Restating the affirmation of self-identity.
I don't want praise, I don't want pity.
I don't seek admiration or sympathy from others.
I bang my own drum,
I follow my own path and express myself authentically.
Some think it's noise, I think it's pretty.
My individuality may be perceived as noise by some, but I find it beautiful.
And so what, if I love each sparkle and each spangle,
Loving every aspect of life, including the bright and flashy.
Why not try and see things from a diff'rent angle?
Encouraging a different perspective on life.
Your life is a sham 'til you can shout out loud
Life feels incomplete until you can boldly declare your true self.
I am what I am!
Reaffirmation of self-identity.
I am what I am
Reiterating the acceptance of one's true self.
And what I am needs no excuses.
My true self requires no justification or apologies.
I deal my own deck
I take charge of my own destiny, experiencing both highs and lows.
Sometimes the ace, sometimes the deuces.
Life is unpredictable, sometimes favorable (ace) and sometimes challenging (deuces).
There's one life, and there's no return and no deposit;
Life is finite, and there's no opportunity for reversal or retrieval.
One life, so it's time to open up your closet.
Recognizing the urgency to be true to oneself.
Life's not worth a damn 'til you can say,
Life lacks significance until one declares, "This is who I am."
"Hey world, I am what I am!"
(Repetition of the theme from line 8)
