Metaphorically trapped or ensnared in a precarious situation, like a butterfly caught in a spider's web

At nights I don't sleep I just lay there in my bed

Experiencing restlessness or insomnia, unable to sleep, contemplating thoughts while lying in bed

I count the sheep, try to outrun my thoughts

Attempting to distract oneself from troubling thoughts by counting sheep, a common technique to induce sleep

Try not to think about what everything costs

Avoiding contemplating the expenses or emotional toll associated with certain things


It was simple back then

Reflecting on a past that seemed more straightforward or uncomplicated

Now its not

Contrasting the past simplicity with a more complex present

It was what you see is what you got

Describing a time when transparency and honesty were prevalent

Always be the one with the grass stained knees

Embracing a carefree attitude, willing to get dirty while exploring and playing

Wanderin' through the woods and feelin' free

Enjoying the freedom found in wandering through nature

Virginia creeper creepin' all over my face

Got the rust to prove it and I'm underdressed

It's true I really ever only wanted to be
