Lyrics
I know why the writing on her face appears,
The speaker understands why there is a visible emotional expression on the woman's face.
Because she can't say
She struggles to verbally express everything that's on her mind.
All the things on her mind
There are numerous thoughts or concerns she faces daily.
Everyday she begs me
She repeatedly requests the speaker's understanding and empathy.
"Please, oh please you have to understand
Expressing the plea to comprehend her unspoken emotions and feelings.
And read between all of the lines"
Asking the listener to interpret beyond the obvious and understand implied meanings.
Time goes down the drain
Time passes unproductively or wastefully.
Love can be the same
Love can also be wasted or lost without proper understanding and communication.
Every morning, she's afraid to wash her face
She fears washing her face as it might reveal her true emotions.
Because she knows that no one
She believes that if her face is clean, her thoughts will be unreadable.
Could then read her mind
She thinks no one will be able to discern her feelings without the visible writing on her face.
So instead, she passes all her time
She occupies herself by ensuring her emotions are prominently displayed.
By always making sure
She consistently ensures that her emotional state is evident or noticeable to others.
That the writing is catching your eye
She tries to make sure that her emotions are apparent and easily understood.
When I try to kiss her pretty face,
The speaker attempts to show affection by kissing her, but she avoids it.
She always shies away
She deflects the speaker's attempt at intimacy by referencing the permanence of her emotional display.
And says "Some of the ink isn't dry"
She uses the metaphor of "ink not dry" to justify her reluctance for intimacy.
And I try so hard to sympathize,
The speaker struggles to understand her reasoning but fears losing her.
But really all I know is that if I can't have her, I'll die
The speaker feels deeply attached to her and fears losing her.
Then one day she looked into the mirror,
She confronts her reflection to find that her emotions as perceived by others are not accurate.
only to discover all that she read was a lie
Realization that her outward emotional display does not match her true feelings.
Then she turned to me and said
She confides in the speaker about her confusion regarding her emotions.
"My love, I can't decide if I'm going dyslexic or blind"
She's uncertain whether she's misinterpreting emotions or unable to perceive them correctly.
