There were pictures everywhere
Observing numerous pictures around.
And my teacher said that this was His house,
The teacher asserted that the place is God's dwelling.
So I knew He must be there
Assumed God's presence in that place.
And even though I never saw His face
Despite not seeing His face, acknowledging His existence.
I know He walked the halls
Belief that God walked through the halls.
And I knew that He could hear
Awareness that God could hear.
When I sang that I could be His sunbeam
Expressing a desire to be a positive force for God.
That I could love my neighbor
Committing to love and care for neighbors.
That I could fold my arms and bow my head
Commitment to prayer and reverence.
And I knew that He was just around the corner
Sense of God's proximity, always near.
In the light behind the stained glass
God perceived in the light filtered through stained glass.
I wasn't quite sure where,
Uncertainty about God's specific location.
But He was always there
Belief in God's constant presence.
When my freckles went away
Noticing physical changes, like freckles disappearing.
And all the dresses and the lace-trimmed socks
Clothing and accessories becoming too small.
Began to get too small
Reflecting on church attendance and wondering about personal recognition by God.
| saw churches everywhere, I saw so many children
Observing churches and children entering.

Curiosity about God's awareness of the individual.
And I wondered if He knew my name at all
Expressing commitment to being responsible for siblings.
But I sang that I would be my brother's keeper
Experiencing internal struggles but maintaining a call for peace.
And I felt the tempest raging
Enduring challenges with a plea for tranquility.
But I kept singing "Peace, peace, be still"
Hope for God's continued presence, just around the corner.
And I hoped that He was still around the corner
Seeking God in the illuminating stained glass.
In the light behind the stained glass
Actively searching for God everywhere.
I searched everywhere
Confirmation of God's constant presence.
And He was always there
And I stand all amazed
Feeling overwhelmed and amazed by God's grace.
Confused at the grace He gives to me
Reflecting on confusion regarding the grace received.
With all the ways I wander
Acknowledging a journey of wandering.
A pilgrim and a stranger
Describing oneself as a pilgrim and a stranger.
But in the distance I can always see
Perceiving a guiding light in the distance.
The light that kindly leads
Continued acknowledgment of the guiding light.
I am older now
Admitting to growing older but striving for childlike qualities.
But every day I try to be a little more
Daily efforts to maintain childlike innocence.
Like the child I used to be
Reflecting on times when feeling most like a child during prayer.
And I think the times
Recognition of specific moments of childlike spirituality.
I start to feel that way the most
Emphasizing the power of prayer in personal experiences.
Are the moments that I pray
Engaging in vocal worship, praising the Almighty.
And when I raise my voice to sing
Expressing a connection between singing and spiritual elevation.
To praise the Lord Almighty
Offering praise to God, the Creator and King.
The King of Creation
Confident in God's ability to hear through spiritual expressions.
Somehow I know that He can hear
Recognizing God's proximity through spiritual trembles.
By the way my spirit trembles
Belief in God's presence just around the corner.
He's just around the corner
Connecting with God in the light behind stained glass.
In the light behind the stained glass
Assurance that God is always there.
It doesn't matter where
Emphasizing God's omnipresence, regardless of location.
He is always there
