FEW HOURS
Journey of Longing: Clark Copland's Few HoursLyrics
Pick up the phone when I call ya
Desire for communication and connection, urging someone to answer the phone.
Even just to say hello
Expressing the importance of even a simple greeting or acknowledgment.
Cause I've been all alone on the road just coming to see you
Feeling isolated while traveling but looking forward to reaching the person.
But it's bout the time that I've gotta slow down
Sense of urgency to slow down the pace, likely due to fatigue or exhaustion.
I'm smoking cigarettes out the window
Smoking to pass time during the journey.
And I'm craving a drink but there's still six hours to go
Craving alcohol but recognizing the remaining duration of the trip.
And I'm praying for a sign but there's only red lights along the way
Seeking reassurance or guidance but facing obstacles and challenges.
No one just to say hello
Emphasizing the absence of companionship or interaction.
I guess I'll see you in a few hours
Anticipation of meeting within a few hours, expressing hope despite uncertainty.
If I don't drift off
Fear of falling asleep while driving, highlighting the danger of fatigue.
The side of the road to a deep deep valley below
Fear of a potential accident or danger on the road, emphasizing vulnerability.
But I guess I'll see you in a few hours or so
Reiteration of the anticipation to meet soon despite the risks.
And there's light at the end of the tunnel and that's for sure
Optimism about a positive outcome or resolution despite current challenges.
I hope you're doing alright just fine this evening
Expressing concern and care for the other person's well-being.
And if your heads on the pillow when I get home just know
Hoping for the other person's presence upon arrival, expressing affection.
I kissed you on the cheek put the blankets on ya
Imagining a tender gesture upon reuniting, showing affection and care.
Wake up with you next to me with no where to go
Desiring to wake up together with a sense of contentment and no rush.
Now we're sixty five and we got our own lives
Reflection on aging and having separate lives but possibly missing the past.
I wish we could run on that field we know
Longing to relive joyful moments from the past, wishing for a simpler time.
Grass on our feet and the sun shining on us
Nostalgia for carefree times, wishing for the return of happiness.
I wish we could go back to those days
Desire to revisit and experience past happiness again.
And live them like they were yesterday
Yearning to relive past experiences as if they were happening in the present.
