Journey of Belonging: Finding Home in Unlikely PlacesLyrics
I walked upstairs and I took a left
I moved to a higher floor and turned left.
The hall was clean, the floors were swept
The hallway was tidy, and the floors were clean.
Didn't expect much from this place
I didn't have high expectations for this place.
But somewhere to call home
But I hoped to find somewhere to consider as my home.
Unpacked my boxes and I smiled
I unpacked my belongings and felt content.
I looked at photos from my childhood
I reminisced by looking at photos from my childhood.
Learned the cracks in my walls and floors
I became familiar with the imperfections in my walls and floors.
And learned to call it home
And eventually, I embraced and recognized this place as my home.
Curled up inside my flannel sheets
I found comfort within my cozy flannel sheets.
My box suited me perfectly
My small living space suited me perfectly.
I found a love at 23
At the age of 23, I discovered love.
Who seemed to have all that I needed
It seemed to fulfill all my needs.
But his heart was set to go and I
But my partner had plans to leave, and I couldn't make him stay.
Couldn't hold him home
I couldn't keep him within the concept of home.
I came back to an empty bed
I returned to a bed that was now empty.
And cried against the wall instead
I expressed my sorrow by crying against the wall.
I slept on couches, cots and floors
I slept on various uncomfortable surfaces.
But couldn't stay home anymore
But I couldn't find solace in any place as a home.
My shoulders were too broad now
My experiences broadened my perspective, making it difficult to fit into my old idea of home.
For the place I had called home
Boxes, unlike people, cannot grow and adapt.
Because boxes cannot grow and change
I realized that giving up doesn't always signify weakness.
Unlike the people they contain
Change is a natural part of life, unlike the static nature of physical spaces.
And giving up
And sometimes, surrendering is a strength in itself.
Doesn't always mean you're weak
New opportunities arise with each sunrise.
The sun rises on new adventures
Let's face the unknown together; take my hand.
So take my hand let's walk together
Let's pause and reflect on the various places we've considered home.
Take a moment to remember
It's not just the physical space but the people we encounter that define our homes.
Our many different homes
Revisiting the idea that home is a multifaceted concept.
It's not the room in which you stay
It's not about the room itself but the connections we make during our journey.
But the people you meet along the way
Similar to the earlier sentiment, emphasizing the importance of relationships over physical spaces.
Didn't expect much from this place
Reiterating the initial low expectations for the place.
But I love to call it home
Despite expectations, I've grown to love and cherish this place as my home.
