Shots were fired my a mindless military,
Referring to shots fired by a thoughtless military.
The people ran they were unarmed
Depicting unarmed people fleeing in response to the gunfire.
Across the world we will read of Derry
Mentioning the global attention drawn to the events in Derry.
And those who died by oppressive hands.
Remembering those who lost their lives due to oppressive actions.
13 people lost their lives that Sunday,
Stating the number of casualties on that Sunday.
Women, children and innocent men.
Highlighting the diversity of the victims (women, children, and men).
Many wounded lay crying in agony,
Describing the suffering of the wounded.
The knights of Malta attended them.
Noting the presence of the Knights of Malta attending to the injured.
And so began the government cover up.
Indicating the initiation of a government cover-up.
And so began the lies and deceit.
Pointing out the beginning of lies and deception.
Soldiers statement would be changed and torn up,
Referring to changes and alterations in soldiers' statements.
No reports would come from men on the street.
Noting the absence of reports from eyewitnesses.
As the years went by the people began to talk,
Observing the passage of time and the emergence of discussions.
The hidden crimes were now being told.
Revealing the disclosure of hidden crimes.
Innocent protesters - shot in back,
Alleging innocent protesters were shot in the back.
Left to die in the winter cold.
Describing the tragic fate of those left to die in the cold.
The bullets used had all been tampered,
Noting the manipulation of bullets for maximum harm.
Maximum injury would come from them.
Expressing the belief that this tyranny will not go unnoticed.
This tyranny will not go un-noticed,
Anticipating a future reckoning or justice.
Our day will come again.
Conveying the hope for a day of justice and retribution.
