Then Ruth and him got married

They had a child together.

Arch was a boxer

Arch, her husband, was a boxer.

Sailors loved to watch him fight

Sailors enjoyed watching him fight.

Every year the Navy moved them

Due to Navy orders, they frequently moved.

She held on with all her might

Ruth held onto the relationship despite the challenges.


Then the fights moved from the ring

The fights extended beyond the boxing ring into their home.

Ruth urged him to stay, but he had other plans.

She said stay here with me

She wanted him to remain with her.

Otherwise, he would be on his own.

But Arch signed the papers

Arch chose to sign the papers, committing to the Navy.

So the Navy had his soul

The Navy had control over his life and soul.

When his orders came in
