Let Them In
Welcoming Peace: David Wilcox's Poetic PleaLyrics
Let them in, Peter
Invitation for Peter to allow entry to a group of individuals
They are very tired
Expressing weariness of the individuals seeking entry
Give them couches where the angels sleep, and light those fires
Suggesting comfort for the tired ones with angelic accommodations and warmth
Let them wake whole again
Desire for the individuals to wake up renewed and refreshed
It's a brand new dawn
Emphasis on a new beginning, a fresh start
Fired by the sun, not wartime's bloody guns
Contrasting the positive dawn with the negativity of wartime
Let their peace be deep
Wishing for profound peace for the entrants
Remember where the broken bodies lie
Recalling the location of those who suffered in conflict
God knows how young they were to have to die
Reflecting on the youthfulness of those who lost their lives
God knows how young they were to have to die
Reiteration of the premature loss of life
So give them things they like
Suggesting providing enjoyable things to the entrants
Let them make some noise
Encouraging the making of joyful sounds and expressions
Give dance-hall bands, not golden harps
Preference for lively music over traditional heavenly harps
To these, our boys
Dedicating the music to the departed individuals
And let them love, Peter
Encouraging love for those who didn't have enough time in life
For they've had no time
Noting the shortened lifespan of the departed
They should have trees, and bird songs,
Desire for the individuals to experience nature and beauty
And hills to climb
Wishing for the entrants to have opportunities for growth
The taste of summer in a ripened pear
Specifically mentioning the pleasures of summer and ripe fruit
And girls, sweet as meadow wind, with flowing hair
Desiring companionship and beauty for the departed
And tell them how they are missed
Acknowledging the absence of the departed and expressing yearning
But not to fear
Offering reassurance that everything will be fine for the departed ones
It's going to be alright
Providing comfort to those still on Earth about the fate of the departed
With us down here
Assuring that everything will be okay for those remaining on Earth
Let them in, Peter
Repeated invitation to Peter to let the individuals in
Let them in, Peter
