The Oak Tree
Journey Through Memory: Davide De Marco's Poetic Oak Tree SagaLyrics
And I drive this lonely road again
Driving along a desolate path again
I was just wondering what's the reason why you left
Reflecting on the reason for your departure
As I wait for answers to pop in my head
Awaiting insights to spontaneously arise
My face's getting older
Noticing the aging of my face
And the tears are carving through my skin.
Tears leaving visible marks on my skin
To the oak tree where we used to sit
Heading towards the oak tree of our past
And where we set the first time that I stole your kiss
Recalling our first kiss at that spot
I remember it looked sturdy back then
Remembering its former strength
But now it's sleeping on the forest floor
Observing its current state on the forest floor
Reveling weak roots to the world
Exposed weak roots revealing vulnerability
To the pond where we lost our path
Referencing the pond where we lost our way
We said we could change the world
Expressing the aspiration to change the world
But nothing really did
Realizing that little changed despite intentions
You know things look easier through warm fire
Acknowledging that things seem easier in retrospect
But silence is cold and wise
Contrasting warmth with the cold wisdom of silence
And I have no sweater to put on
Feeling unprepared for the harsh realities
My home is full of open books
Surrounded by open books chronicling our story
That talk about us two
Reflection on the shared past and experiences
And the time we spent together
Every day closing a chapter of our history
Each day I close one
Sitting by the window, contemplating memories
I sit at the window
Watching morning rain erase yesterday's certainties
Watching the morning rain
Symbolizing the cleansing of past assurances
Wash away the certainties of yesterday
Highlighting the transient nature of certainty
