Why does a caged bird sing
Questioning why someone in confinement still finds a way to express themselves
She knows what it is to be free but you're not listening
Highlighting that someone understands freedom, but others are not attentive
And why do we fight
Questioning the reasons behind conflicts
Flowers grow into the light
Symbolizing growth and positivity even in difficult situations
And so many people scared in the dark tonight
Observing fear in many people during challenging times
And when I grow old
Reflecting on aging and the accumulation of wisdom
My mind be filled with gold
Imagining a mind enriched with valuable experiences
And it took me a life to learn I can't save the world
Realization that one person cannot solve all the world's problems
Wait here comes the pain
Anticipating impending emotional pain
Sorrow will bring on the rain
Connecting sorrow with the arrival of hardship
And sometimes you gotta fall from the sky
Metaphorically stating the necessity of falling to rise again
To get up again
Emphasizing the resilience acquired through adversity
And where have all the heroes gone
Questioning the absence of admirable figures
Palestine or Jerusalem
Referencing conflict zones to highlight strife and unrest
Throw your pomegranates at the wall
Symbolic act of defiance or protest
Oh where have they gone
Reiterating the absence of heroes or role models
And I'm scared of the dark
Expressing fear of the unknown or darkness
And I can't find my guitar
Feeling lost or unable to find something important
And you wouldn't want my liver
Rejecting the idea that one's internal organs are of value to someone else
And you sure wouldn't want my heart
Rejecting the idea that one's emotions or feelings are desirable
And why was I born
Questioning the purpose or reason for existence
I thirst on pages torn
Expressing a yearning for something unattainable
And I'm hurt and I'm as fragile as a swan
Comparing one's fragility to that of a swan, emphasizing vulnerability
And whose gonna turn you on
Asking who will emotionally engage or excite someone
The truth is almost gone
Noting the scarcity of truth or honesty
