Lyrics

I've been to town I've walked the highways and the harbors too

I've experienced city life, walking through urban areas and along the waterfronts

I've done some things I never thought I'd ever do

I've engaged in activities I never expected or planned to do

Now as I stand here looking down at you

Reflecting on past experiences, standing and observing someone

You ask me why it is I frown I guess it's cause I've been to town

Asked why I appear unhappy, and I attribute it to my encounters in the city

I've been to town beyond the boulevard and down the beach

I've explored the city extensively, going beyond main streets and to the shore

I've learned some things that only time can teach

Gained wisdom through time, understanding that some lessons can only be learned with experience

For instance love is more than just a speech

Realized that love is more than words; it requires a shared understanding

It's got to find a common ground I know because I've been to town

Love needs a common foundation, acknowledging this because of my city experiences

Don't tell me any more lies I can't waste any more years

Expressing a desire for honesty, as I don't want to waste more time on falsehoods

I've seen my image in your eyes dissolve in disappointed tears

Seeing the reflection of myself in someone else's eyes, realizing disappointment and tears

I've been to town you ask me do I know the Milky Way

Asked about knowledge of the universe, specifically the Milky Way

I do and furthermore I'd like to say it isn't milky white it's dirty gray

Noting that the Milky Way isn't pure and white but rather dirty gray, drawing parallels to life's challenges

Especially when your world breaks down I know because I've been to town

Emphasizing that the world can be difficult and chaotic, drawing from personal experiences
