Ravens, symbolic of death, hover close to the ground.

Death a ubiquitous member

Death is always present, an unavoidable part of existence.

And knock forevermore

The ravens persistently announce their presence.

Or just break down the door

Either persistently knock or destructively break into the heart's intricate maze.

To this labyrinth of your twisted heart

Describing the complexity and dark nature of the inner self.

But I am just like you, selfish and abused

Realization of sharing similar flaws – selfishness and experiencing abuse.

There is a shadow that stalks my hide

A looming sense of impending danger or darkness.

But what do you do with this skin?

Questioning what one does with their protective facade or outer layer.

A home in which you live it's insufficient

A sense of inadequacy within the environment that one resides in.


But we weren't in it to win

Reiterating that winning wasn't the objective in the relationship.

Love bloomed and withered cyclically, signaling a new start.
