The Heather on the Hill
Wandering Through Heather: A Poetic Journey Beyond ValleysLyrics
Can't we two go walkin' together out beyond the valley of trees?
Desire to walk together beyond the valley among trees
Out where there's a hillside of heather curtseyin' gently in the breeze
In a place with a hill covered in heather swaying gently in the wind
That's what I'd like to do; see the heather but with you.
Expresses the wish to experience seeing the heather with a companion
The mist of May is in the gloamin',and all the clouds are holdin' still
Describes the atmosphere of May with mist during twilight and calm clouds
So take my hand and let's go roamin'through the heather on the hill.
Invitation to take the hand and explore the heather on the hill
The mornin' dew is blinkin' yonder, there's lazy music in the rill,
Highlights the dew in the morning and the soothing sounds of the stream
And all I want to do is wander through the heather on the hill.
Expresses a desire to wander through the heather on the hill
There may be other days as rich and rare,
Recognition that there might be other exceptional days
There may be other springs as full and fare,
Acknowledgment that other springs might be equally abundant
But the won't be the same, they'll come and go
Emphasizes the uniqueness and impermanence of the experience
For this I know;
Reaffirms the importance of the experience being shared
That when the mist is in gloamin'
Reiteration of the atmosphere during twilight
And all the clouds are holdin' still,
Restates the stillness of clouds and the desire for companionship
If you're not there I won't go roamin' through the heather on the hill,
If the companion isn't present, reluctance to explore the heather
The heather on the hill.
Reiteration of the desire to be in the heather on the hill
The mist of May is in the gloamin',and all the clouds are holdin' still
Repeats the atmospheric conditions and the invitation to explore
So take my hand and let's go roamin'through the heather on the hill.
