Once there was a thought unfinished
There was a thought that remained incomplete or unresolved.

But a hope

The expectation was that time would reveal or unfold something.
I gave you all, but not for nothing
I gave my all, and it wasn't without purpose or value.

In your eyes, there was still something meaningful or significant.
What I wanted was now over
What I desired or sought was now concluded or completed.
For a while
For a period of time, the desired state persisted.
And no one tried
No one made an effort to change the situation.
