That I would be better instead

To make requests and put them to rest
Acknowledging God's omniscience and foresight.
But You're already one step ahead
Trust that God is ahead in understanding and responding.

Emphasizing God's awareness of the speaker's thoughts.
Before it was said
Highlighting God's preknowledge of the speaker's words.
Every night I lie awake wondering
Expressing a nightly contemplation of divine attention.
If You're listening to every heartbeat
Questioning God's awareness of the speaker's emotions.
