When Jesus died, He did more than just give us some help

So help me understand why we still living for self
Questioning why people still live for themselves.
We live for our families, for our money and cars
Listing common pursuits: family, money, and possessions.
We live for our happiness, cause our pleasure is lord
Highlighting misguided priorities and pleasures.
But ain't we seen yet, that that just doesn't work
Asserting that self-centered living doesn't work.
Living for self can only lead to dozens of hurts
Warning about the negative consequences of selfishness.
Please hear my heart, like a stethoscope
Metaphorically using a stethoscope to convey urgency.
We're taking steps towards death, but looking for hope
Walking towards death but seeking hope.
Because we were captured by sin
Acknowledging being captured by sin.
We were seized, now we need to be captured again
Expressing the need to be recaptured from sin.
That's why we need to pick them Scriptures up
Emphasizing the importance of engaging with Scriptures.
Start praying and fasting, and ask the Father to forgive us of
Encouraging prayer, fasting, and seeking forgiveness.
Forgive us for laziness, forgive us Lord for our pride
Seeking forgiveness for laziness and pride.
Forgive us for worldliness, forgive us, cleanse us inside
Seeking forgiveness for worldliness and internal cleansing.
Cleanse us Lord from telling lies, cleanse us from our selfishness
Asking for cleansing from lies and selfishness.
Cleanse us from our fear of man, we need more than help from this
Requesting help overcoming fear and acknowledging inadequacy.
We confess our lack of love, We confess selfish ambition
Confessing a lack of love and selfish ambition.
We confess to You our lust, oh Lord bring us to repentance
Confessing lust and pleading for repentance.
See, we were captured by sin

We were seized, now we need to be captured again
