Fortunes of War
Fortunes of War: A Haunting Tale of Loss and ReflectionLyrics
The damage done to all these place
The destruction inflicted on various places
Is quite unbelievable
It is incredibly difficult to comprehend
You never have seen such pain
Witnessing an unprecedented level of suffering
Walking through the bombed cities
Walking through cities that have been bombed
A cancerous civilization
Describing society as a malignant growth
Fed on its own body
Society consuming itself
Which is never healing yet
Continual damage with no healing
But somehow not quite dying
A society that is persistently harmed but not fully perishing
You never ever could win a war
Winning a war is an impossible feat
That's what you have to learn
A lesson that must be understood
Here everybody is a loser
In war, everyone emerges as a loser
You will get nothing in return
No rewards or gains will be received
Thousands of men died on both sides
Significant loss of life on both sides
And this is the greatest loss
Emphasizing the magnitude of human loss
The cities can be build up again
Cities can be rebuilt, but...
But there is no hope for all these men
No hope for the lives lost
Civilian targets were also bombed
Civilians also targeted and killed
So wives and children died as well
Loss of innocent lives, including women and children
We destroy our own future
Society undermining its own future
How could you say you won a war
Questioning the legitimacy of claiming victory in war
You never ever could win a war
Reiteration: Winning a war is unattainable
That's what you have to learn
Re-emphasizing the need to understand the impossibility of victory
Here everybody is a loser
Reiteration: In war, everyone suffers losses
You will get nothing in return
Repeating the lack of rewards or gains in war
