Lyrics

You hit reset again

You restarted something

I blame myself, I think it's what I said

I hold myself responsible, believing my words contributed

That pushed you to the edge

My words may have driven you to a breaking point

I pushed you to the edge

I specifically pushed you to an extreme

How could a poet possibly make such mistakes with words as these

Expressing the difficulty of a poet avoiding hurtful words

I wanted to make you believe you're not the one that hurt me

I aimed to convince you that you're not the cause of my pain

It wasn't you

Clarifying that the blame doesn't lie with you

It could never be you, at least purposefully

Ensuring it's not your fault, at least not intentionally

I'll start crying tonight

Expressing the intention to cry tonight

You'll understand but you're never right

You'll comprehend, but you're consistently incorrect

To blame someone else

Attributing blame to others for my emotional state

For the way that I felt

Putting responsibility on external factors for my feelings

I always disappoint myself

Acknowledging a pattern of self-disappointment

Thinking maybe you'll treat me like someone else

Hoping for different treatment from you

I think I'm running out of breath

Suggesting a feeling of suffocation or desperation

The things I say and what you said, they don't make sense

Noting a lack of coherence between our words

You don't make sense, at least to me

You, and your actions, are confusing to me

So help me understand

Pleading for clarification and understanding

Tell me all about how she hurt you

Requesting details about how someone else hurt you

Will you confide in me

Asking for your trust and emotional sharing

Or let me hold you while you think of her some more

Offering support and comfort while you think of her

Will hers be the last name that you call for

Questioning if her name will be the last you call

Hold me once before you go

Asking for a comforting moment before you leave

I promise I'll be fine

Assuring that I'll be okay after you go

But I just wanted you to know

Expressing a desire for you to know something important

I didn't mean to be the thing making you leave

Apologizing for unintentionally driving you away
