And the future keeps on looming regardless of what we've found

We have found solid gold can be extracted from the earth
Recognition of value obtained from the earth, metaphorically likened to extracting precious elements.
With gaudy specks of dead stars we count our worth
Assigning value to humanity using elements created from deceased stars, evaluating self-worth.
