I'm from the Hi Lo country of New Mexico
I hail from the Hi Lo country in New Mexico.
Rode horses by the time I was three
I started riding horses at the age of three.
Learned to stop 'em with just a whoa
Learned to command horses to stop with a simple "whoa."
In younger days rode the rodeo marquee
In my youth, I participated in rodeos, featuring prominently on marquees.
And Got pretty good at an eight second ride
Became proficient in handling an eight-second ride, a rodeo event.
But dust always won at the end
Despite skills, dust, representing challenges or difficulties, prevails eventually.
I'd Pick myself up and recover my pride
After setbacks, I pick myself up, preserving my pride.
Soon learned dust doesn't bend, now
Realized that dust, symbolic of hardships, is unyielding and unchanging.
I'm just a cowboy riding the kingdom of dust
I am a cowboy navigating life in a challenging environment.
Work dawn to dusk for my pay
Engage in hard work from sunrise to sunset for my livelihood.
Me and my horse have learned to adjust
My horse and I have adapted to the difficulties we encounter.
Dealin' with what comes our way
Facing and handling whatever challenges come our way.
Riding in the kingdom of dust
Continuing the journey in this challenging realm.
I've a hankering to see just what's over the next hill
I have a strong desire to explore what lies beyond the immediate challenges.
Follow any trail just to see what's ahead
Willing to follow any path to discover what the future holds.
Usually more dust but I follow my freewill
Despite expecting more challenges (dust), I follow my own choices.
Under the stars I make my bed
Under the night sky, I make do with the circumstances.
Some nights things well they move kind of slow
Some nights are slow, but anticipation builds for the dawn.
I just can't wait for the dawn
Impatiently waiting for the next day to begin.
Get on my horse give that next hill a go
Riding towards the next challenge with enthusiasm.
