Ghosts
Whispers of Mortality: Harmony Woods' Reflection on Life and DeathLyrics
We sit in silence
We are quietly seated.
Watch the wind blow
Observing the movement of the wind.
Listen to our fellow strangers
Listening to unfamiliar people around us.
Talk about the lives they've lived and
Hearing discussions about the experiences they've had.
Whether they were all worth living
Contemplating whether those experiences were meaningful.
Still, I stare
Despite this, I am focused.
At the people shivering there
Observing people in discomfort,
In their summer clothes
Despite wearing clothes suitable for summer.
Where they go when this is over
Wondering where they will go when this moment concludes.
No one knows
No one possesses that knowledge.
Death is not a stranger
Death is a familiar concept,
Every life will have an end
Every life has a predetermined conclusion.
One day you will die
Acknowledging that one day, each of us will face death.
And only ghosts will be your friend
At that point, only memories (ghosts) will be companions.
Cars are passing, people are rushing on by
Observing the fast-paced life: cars passing, people rushing.
They've got places to go and things to do tonight
People are busy with their agendas for the night.
They're too busy to sit around and think about life
Too occupied to ponder the essence of life.
If they're not worrying, why am I?
Questioning why personal worries persist if others aren't bothered.
Death is not a stranger
Reiterating that death is a familiar aspect of existence.
Every life will have an end
Emphasizing that every life has an inevitable conclusion.
One day you will die
Reminding that death is an inevitable part of the human experience.
And only ghosts will be your friend
Highlighting that in death, only memories endure.
We sit in silence
Returning to a state of quiet observation.
Watch the wind blow
Once again, focusing on the movement of the wind.
Listen to our fellow strangers
Listening to the conversations of unfamiliar individuals.
Talk about the lives they've lived and
Hearing discussions about the significance of their lives.
Whether they were all worth living
Questioning the value of the lives they've led.
