Leave The Water Come
Resilience Under Rain: A Tale of Holding GroundLyrics
It's been raining down in this valley for far too long
Extended period of continuous rain in the valley
The water is rising and soon this will all be gone
Consequence of the rising water leading to the loss of everything
My mother taught me how to swim, when i was still young
Learning essential skills from the mother
I don't think that that'll help me, but i ain't gonna run
Doubtful about survival despite knowing swimming
Been burning my belongings, just to keep warm
Resorting to burning possessions for warmth due to rain
But this goddamn rain, doing me wrong
Expressing frustration towards the continuous rain
The water is rising, my stuff is all but gone
Impact of rising water on personal belongings
What did i do wrong
Questioning the reason for the unfortunate situation
This has been my family home now, for more than sixty years
Long-standing familial connection to the home
I raised my children in this place, it's filled with laughter and tears
Emotional attachment to the place filled with memories
My family have long since gone, i am the last of my name
Being the last surviving member of the family lineage
Everything that i once loved, has been lost to the flames
Loss of everything beloved due to previous destruction
But no man could make me leave this place, i dare god to try
Determination not to leave the cherished place
Sometimes you've gotta stand, where you're willing to die
Willingness to stand firm and face challenges, even risking life
The fire has burned out, doused by the rain
Transition from fire to rain, change in circumstances
I am soaked to the bone, but i feel no pain
Being completely soaked but emotionally numb
So leave the water come down, let it do it's worst
Acceptance and defiance towards the incoming water's destruction
I was born of this land, i will return to it's dirt
Profound connection to the land, ready to return to it
