They attempted to influence my youth
They were only teaching me

How to get through life
Teaching practical strategies to survive
How to punch the clock
How to work on schedule and manage responsibilities
And get a home and get a wife
Establish a household and find a spouse
They knew I was searching for things Iâ??d never find
They understood my quest for unattainable things
So they tried to break my mind
So they attempted to influence my thoughts
By paddling my behind
Using physical punishment to shape my behavior
All for the love of an innocent mind
All in the name of preserving innocence
They were the blind leading the blind
They lacked insight themselves, trying to guide others
All for the love of molding young minds
Attempting to shape young minds out of kindness
They were too kind
They were excessively kind
Headmasters of mine
Referring to these figures as headmasters
They themselves were products
They were products of a preceding society
Of a past society
Victims of the same societal issues they enforced
They themselves were victims
Realizing the necessity to forgive their actions
Of the same atrocity
But unwilling to erase the memories of their impact
I realize I must forgive
Similar to them, guiding me through life's challenges
But I will never forget
Forever appreciative of their influence
These men and women young and old
Instructing on how to compete in life's race
I'm forever in your debt
Present oneself with a positive demeanor in roles
They were only teaching me how to run the race
Discouraging questioning unless pertaining to curriculum
Fill the position with a smile upon my face
Disciplinary actions to impose compliance
Don't ask the question if it isn't from the text
A critical view on the wastage prevalent in society
Throw me out into the hall
Intellectual opportunities often remain untapped
And ask who wants to be next
Follow set guidelines without deviation
