I've never built a coffee table, birdhouse, or a chair where I could sit
I have never crafted furniture like a coffee table, birdhouse, or a chair for personal use.
My hands don't show a lifetime of pain, or sweat, or sacrifice, or grit
My hands don't bear visible signs of a challenging life filled with pain, sweat, sacrifice, or determination.
I've placed upon the mantle some photographs of moments I was in
I have placed photographs on the mantle capturing moments from my life.
But I didn't build the picture frames, I can't tell you where they've been
However, I didn't personally create the picture frames, and I don't have knowledge of their origins.
What I've built is who I am
What defines me is not physical objects but the person I have become.
I'm rough around the edges, but I'm still standing
Despite my rough exterior, I have endured and am still standing strong.
I'm still standing, I'm standing on my own
I emphasize my independence and resilience by standing on my own.
I built myself out of blood and bone
I have constructed my identity from my own essence, symbolized by blood and bone.
And I'm standing on my own
Reiterating my self-sufficiency and strength, I stand on my own.
I've taken it for granted that I am where I am 'cause of where I been
I sometimes take for granted that my current position is a result of my past experiences.
That everything that's happened to me brought me here so I could live again
Every life event, both positive and negative, has shaped me and given me a chance to live anew.
And sure there's things I've never done like raise a child or read "Of Mice and Men"
While acknowledging things I haven't done, like raising a child or reading specific literature.
It's hard enough to make a man that anyone would want to call a friend
It's challenging to become a person others would consider a true friend.
What I've built is who I am
My identity is a product of my experiences, and I embrace my imperfections.
And I'm rough around the edges, but I'm still standing
Despite my rough edges, I continue to endure and stand strong.

Emphasizing my resilience and independence by standing on my own.
Someday I'm gonna build myself a home
Expressing the aspiration to build a permanent home for myself in the future.
