Highwayman
Eternal Journey: Tales of a Resilient WandererLyrics
I was a highwayman
I had a profession as a highwayman
Along the coach roads I did ride
I traveled on coach roads
With the sword and pistol by my side
I carried a sword and pistol for protection
And many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
I stole from and victimized young women
And many a soldier shed his life blood on my blade
Many soldiers lost their lives fighting against me
They fin'lly hung me in the spring of '25
I was executed by hanging in the spring of '25
But I am still alive
Despite my death, I exist in some form
I was a sailor
I had a second life as a sailor
And I was borne upon the tide
I lived my life in harmony with the sea
And with the sea I did abide
I navigated the ocean's tide
I sailed a schooner 'round the horn of Mexico
I sailed a schooner around the horn of Mexico
I went aloft to furl the mainsail in a blow
I faced dangers while working on the ship's sails
And when the yards broke off they say that I got killed
There were rumors of my death during a mishap
But I am living still
Despite the rumors, I survived
I was a dam builder
I became a dam builder
Across the river deep and wide
I worked on a dam across a wide river
Where steel and water did collide
Steel and water clashed in my construction work
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
The location was Boulder on the wild Colorado River
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
I had a fatal accident, falling into wet concrete
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
They buried me in a tomb without sound
But I am still around
Despite my death, I continue to exist
Seems like it all goes 'round and 'round
Life seems to go in circles
And 'round and 'round
An observation on the cyclical nature of life
I'll fly a starship
I express a desire to fly a starship
Across the universe divide
Across the vast expanse of the universe
Until I reach the other side
I seek to reach the other side, possibly an afterlife
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
I hope to find a place to rest my spirit
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Contemplating a return to being a highwayman
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
Alternatively, I may become a simple raindrop
But I will remain
Regardless, I will endure
And I'll be back again
A declaration of returning multiple times
And again, and again, and again.
Emphasis on the cyclical nature of existence
