Lyrics

We set out from the eastern shore

We depart from the eastern coast.

Only been on the sea one time before

This journey marks only my second time at sea.

Chasing the fish and wind from the north

Chasing both fish and winds originating from the north.

And I hope we come back and I hope we find more

I am hopeful for our return and a greater catch.

We set sail from Halifax harbour

Our journey begins from Halifax harbor.

Come hell or high water

Regardless of difficulties, obstacles, or challenges.

Days are long and the nights are cold

Days are lengthy, and nights are cold.

My hands are sore and my bones feel old

My hands ache, and I feel the weariness of old age in my bones.

When we find fish there's nets to be pulled

When we discover fish, there's work to be done pulling nets.

Cause man can't live on the stories we've told

Because one cannot survive solely on the tales we've recounted.

We set sail from Halifax harbour

We embark on our journey from Halifax harbor.

Come hell or high water

Irrespective of challenges or difficulties.

Stomach turned and the waves would roll

Feeling queasy as the waves roll.

And the wind would howl and my ship layed low

The wind intensifies, causing my ship to lean precariously.

Her belly filled with the ocean's gold

The ship's hold fills with valuable oceanic resources.

And the captain ordered 'boys point 'er for home

The captain commands us to head homeward.

We set sail for Halifax harbour

We journey back towards Halifax harbor.

Come hell or high water

Regardless of challenges or difficulties.

When we land at the Woodside Pier

Upon reaching Woodside Pier,

We'll mend all the nets and we'll drink to good cheer

We'll repair the fishing nets and celebrate with joyous toasts.

Won't stay long cause the winter is near

We won't stay for long due to the impending winter.

And there's fish to be had but we can't catch them here

Although there are fish to be caught, this place isn't conducive for catching them.

We set sail from Halifax harbour

Once more, we set sail from Halifax harbor.

Come hell or high water

Regardless of challenges or difficulties.

We'll set our sails and we'll wave to McNabb

We'll raise our sails and bid farewell to McNabb.

And thank the good Lord for the catch that we had

Expressing gratitude to the divine for our successful catch.

The ocean calls everyone to a man

The ocean beckons every individual.

And I hope we find more and I hope we come back

I hope for a greater catch and our safe return.

We set sail from Halifax harbour

Once more, we set sail from Halifax harbor.

Come hell or high water

Regardless of challenges or difficulties.

We set sail from Halifax harbour

Our journey starts anew from Halifax harbor.
