Lyrics

I was a suburban boy in the 1980's

I had a suburban upbringing during the 1980s.

Living my best life, unencumbered and so carefree

I was enjoying my life to the fullest, without many worries.

The things I didn't know now seem embarrassing

Looking back, I find some of my past ignorance embarrassing.

I guess my innocence was trying to protect me

My innocence at that time was a shield, trying to protect me.

And all the things I took for granted

I didn't appreciate certain things, assuming they would always be there.

Every dream I planned to achieve

I had dreams and plans for my future.

Well, life turned out to be more complicated

Life, however, turned out to be more complex than I anticipated.

Then I ever thought it could be

The reality I faced was more challenging than I had imagined.

Blissful ignorance was my escape

Being unaware of certain realities was my way of escaping from them.

From the reality that stood in my way

There were obstacles in my life that I tried to ignore.

What was there to stop me

I questioned what could have prevented me from pursuing my goals.

What was hidden in plain sight

Some challenges were hidden in plain sight, not immediately noticeable.

If I couldn't imagine it

If I couldn't envision a problem, I didn't consider it a concern.

It was worth the time

I deemed something worthwhile only if I could imagine its significance.

And all the things I took for granted

I failed to appreciate certain aspects of life, assuming their permanence.

Every dream I planned to achieve

My dreams faced unexpected challenges and complexities.

Well, life turned out to be more complicated

Life unfolded in a more intricate way than I had ever anticipated.

Then I ever thought it could be

The challenges in life surpassed my initial expectations of their complexity.
