Reflecting on occasions when deviating from the usual path led to discovering serene places.

And quiet that's good for thought and just walking through a trackless forest

Appreciating the tranquility of nature, conducive to deep thinking while exploring untrodden forests.

Or exploring ruins of the earliest settlers or walking along a creekbed

Describing various activities like exploring ancient ruins and walking along creekbeds.


Hoping to find a relic such as a tomahawk an axe

Expressing the hope of finding historical artifacts like tomahawks, axes, or arrowheads.

Or even an arrowhead left by a race of long since vanished Indians

Yearning for discoveries left behind by vanished Native American civilizations.

There's a great thrill and it's a wonderful feeling to find a flint arrowhead

Highlighting the excitement and joy of discovering a flint arrowhead.


Over fields of new turned sod and in communion with my God I walked alone

Walking alone in fields, finding solitude, and feeling a spiritual connection with God.

In a furrow bed I found an arrowhead chiseled from stone

Discovering an arrowhead in a furrow bed, pondering its origin.

I don't know how long ago some redman drew his bow on its last fight

Speculating on the age of the arrowhead and the circumstances of its creation.

Or did he drop it here afraid white men were near to attack at night

Wondering if the arrowhead was dropped in fear of approaching white men.


I do know this one thing beyond all questioning it was made to kill

Acknowledging the arrowhead's purpose as a weapon designed for killing.

And proof of a master trade is in this arrowhead he made fashioned with skill

Recognizing the craftsmanship and skill of the arrowhead's creator.

That I inherited this ground is denied by this stone I've found but when and by who

Contemplating ownership of the land and acknowledging the stone as evidence.

Come join me in my tracks then let's stop and look back to the vale and through

Inviting others to join in retracing the journey and reflecting on the past.


In love and peace we'll see the shadows and the trees and voices too

Visualizing a peaceful scene in nature, with shadows, trees, and distant voices.

But quietly slowly tread this home of the forgotten dead whose bones are dust

Walking quietly through a burial ground, expressing pride in preserving craftsmanship.

I'm proud that their craftsmen's skill survives the ages still left in my trust

Reflecting on the enduring skill of craftsmen and the responsibility of preserving history.
