Sheep and cattle gather 'round. Angels sing this song
Animals such as sheep and cattle surrounded Jesus while angels sang.

Rejoice, rejoice in the highest to God (Latin).
Glory be to God on high peace on earth
Expressing honor to God and wishing for peace on the earth.
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed
In a feeding trough, as there was no proper crib, Jesus lay.
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head
The infant Jesus gently rested his head in this makeshift bed.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The stars above shone brightly, watching over where Jesus lay.
The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay
Jesus, the infant, was peacefully sleeping on the hay.
The cattle are lowing the baby awakes
The sounds of animals (cattle lowing) woke the baby Jesus.
But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes
Despite being awakened, the baby Jesus remained serene without crying.
I love thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
An expression of love toward Jesus and a request for his attention from the sky.
And stay by my cradle till morning is nigh
Asking Jesus to stay near the cradle until the morning arrives.

Requesting Jesus to be close and remain present.
