Lyrics
I keep looking back
I am reflecting on the past.
Over my shoulder
Looking back with a sense of retrospection or regret.
Up at the light
Observing or acknowledging something brighter or hopeful.
That's folding over
That hopeful aspect is diminishing or fading away.
I dig it deep
I delve deeply into something.
I eat the dirt
I accept hardships or difficulties.
It sits in my stomach
The hardships start to cause discomfort or pain.
It starts to hurt
The discomfort from hardships intensifies.
I greet the earthworms
I acknowledge and respect the smaller elements of life or nature.
As they go by
I recognize passing moments or opportunities.
I invite them in
I offer hospitality or openness, but it's not accepted.
But they decline
Despite the invitation, acceptance is not received.
I was clawing at the earth
I was struggling with life's challenges.
Knowing not all it entailed
Without understanding all the consequences.
Now my fists are filled with dirt
Now I'm left with the difficulties or struggles.
And there's mud under my fingernails
The hardships are visibly evident or tangible.
I know I should scale these walls
I'm aware I should overcome obstacles.
Before this concrete, it is poured
Before it becomes too late or difficult.
For every minute that I wait
Every delay increases the challenge.
Is just another minute
Each passing moment adds to the struggle.
Just another minute more
Another increment in the ongoing difficulties.
