Thought everything was lost or at rock bottom, experiencing a moment of extreme loss or despair.
I gambled all my earnings I've been yearning for a purpose
Gambled with personal assets (earnings) and yearning for a meaningful direction or purpose in life.
I've been staring at the walls and I've been drinking when I'm nervous
Feeling anxious or stressed and using drinking as a coping mechanism.
I've been cultivating habits for the sake of pleasure
Developing behaviors for momentary pleasure's sake.
I've been measuring my sense of self from the words of my oppressors
Evaluating self-worth based on the criticisms or negativity of others.
I've been listening to the waves and to rustlin' of trees
Listening to the calming sounds of nature, seeking solace or peace.
Been trying to meditate
Engaging in meditation as a potential source of inner peace.
Perhaps someday it'll bring me peace
Hopeful that someday meditation might bring the sought-after peace.
Cause this peace of mind
Avoiding inner peace as if it's something unwanted.
I've been avoiding like it's a disease
Viewing peace of mind as undesirable or problematic.
Didn't think I'd find the freedom
Unexpectedly discovering freedom in doing what one desires.
Now I've been doing what I please
Currently engaging in activities based on personal choice.
I can feel the liberation
