If You Were Coming in the Fall
Eternal Longing: Embracing the Unpredictable Dance of LoveLyrics
If you were coming in the fall,
If you were arriving in the autumn season,
I'd brush the summer by
I would hurry through or quickly get past the summer,
With half a smile and half a spurn,
Expressing a mix of a smile and rejection,
As housewives do a fly.
Similar to how housewives dismiss or shoo away a fly,
If I could see you in a year,
If I were able to meet you after a year's time,
I'd wind the months in balls,
I would organize or bundle up the passing months,
And put them each in separate drawers,
Storing each month separately in drawers,
Until their time befalls.
Until their respective times arrive or occur.
If only centuries delayed,
If only centuries were delayed or postponed,
I'd count them on my hand,
I would count them using my hand,
Subtracting till my fingers dropped
Continuing until my fingers became exhausted or fell off,
Into Van Diemens land.
As if referring to a faraway and unknown place (Van Diemen's Land).
If certain, when this life was out,
If it was certain that after this life,
That yours and mine should be,
Our lives would be together,
I'd toss it yonder like a rind,
I would discard it like a fruit peel,
And taste eternity.
And experience or savor eternity.
But now, all ignorant of the length
But currently, not knowing the extent
Of time's uncertain wing,
Of time's uncertain course or path,
It goads me, like the goblin bee,
It troubles me, like a bothersome bee,
That will not state its sting.
That refuses to reveal its sting.
