And I remember like it was yesterday
Reflecting on a past memory, feeling like it happened recently.
And I’m so glad I stumbled upon that smile that you hide
Expressing gratitude for discovering a hidden smile.
Or did you forget your beautiful today
Questioning if the person forgot their beauty in the present.
In each and every way I don’t get to say
Unable to express admiration in various ways.
Cos I’m not allowed to love you like this like this
Expressing restrictions or obstacles in expressing love.
And so I pen my heartaches to page
Turning heartaches into written words on paper.
And so I play my guitar and cover up these aches
Using music (playing guitar) to mask emotional pain.
Of my heartbreaks
Referencing heartbreaks and emotional distress.
My heartbreak cos you just take and take
Feeling emotionally drained as the person takes without giving.
And yes we’re worn yes we’re broken
Acknowledging weariness and brokenness in the relationship.
But if there’s a chance I hope that we will take it
Expressing hope for a chance to mend the relationship.
Like when I gave you my hand
Recalling a moment of vulnerability, offering a hand.
And within you placed your palm
Describing physical closeness and intimacy through handholding.
So soon I was disarmed
Feeling disarmed emotionally after the intimate moment.
But see I’d never held my world before
Expressing inexperience in holding one's world (relationship).
And so I pen my heartaches to page
Reiterating the use of writing to cope with emotional pain.
And so I play my guitar and cover up these aches
Using music to cope with heartaches, repeating the theme.
Of my heartbreaks
Reiterating the theme of heartbreaks and emotional distress.
My heartbreak cos you just take and take
Expressing a sense of being taken advantage of emotionally.
