A Little Kindness
Seeking Kindness in Shadows: Mark Erelli's Poetic JourneyLyrics
You've always walked beside me
You've always been by my side
In joy and in despair
During both happy and difficult times
Now I need something to lean on
Now, I require support, but you're absent
but you're not here
Expressing a sense of absence or loss
There's an evil wind a-blowin'
Sensing a negative force or influence
I feel it in my bones
A feeling of discomfort or foreboding
I don't know where I'm going or how to get back home
Uncertainty about the direction in life
I've been looking for a little kindness
Searching for compassion or benevolence
but it's hard to find
Difficulty in finding kindness
Looking for a little kindness
Continuing the quest for kindness
and it's hard to find these days
Expressing the rarity of kindness in contemporary times
If I could go back where we started
Contemplating a return to a previous positive state
Would the sun be shining still
Wondering if past happiness can be restored
Now I only see a darkness
Current perception of a bleak reality
and holes that can't be filled
Feeling emotional voids that are hard to fill
All the things that brought me comfort
Items that used to provide solace now seem worn out
They just seem tired and worn
Methods that were effective no longer work
What always used to work ain't working anymore
Change and challenges in accustomed comforts
I've been looking for a little kindness
Continuing the quest for kindness
but it's hard to find
Struggling to find acts of kindness
Looking for a little kindness
Persisting in the search despite difficulties
and it's hard to find these days
Highlighting the scarcity of kindness in the current era
All I've learned from growing older
Reflection on the lessons learned through aging
Is how to carry all I've lost
Bearing the weight of past losses
But I don't know how to pick up
Uncertainty about continuing from where someone left off
where you left off
Struggling to fill the void left by someone
Maybe I should just stop talking
Considering the option of silence and letting go
And let the music fade
Possibly ending communication and letting the music conclude
You always seemed to know when there was nothing more to say
Recognizing when words are inadequate
