We would shelter anyone

And in our minds, in our souls there was no evil
Believing in the inherent goodness of people, with no recognition of evil in their minds and souls.
So when you were sent away
Feeling devastated when the beloved person is separated or sent away.
My foundations of reality just crumbled
Experiencing a profound disruption in the speaker's sense of reality.
And the pillars that sustained
The foundational principles and beliefs crumbling when the person is gone.
My beliefs, my naivety just vanished.
The core beliefs and naivety disappearing with the departure of the loved one.
