A guy came up behind me while I was walkin' down the hall

A person approached me from behind while I was walking in a corridor.

He didn’t seem to have no patience at all

This person seemed impatient.

He said he was in a hurry and he gave me a poke

He claimed to be in a hurry and physically nudged me.

I said I’d like to help you friend, but my hurry done broke

He said “old man, you be movin' like you’re tired

The person accused me of moving slowly due to fatigue.

I said it’s more than that sport, my hurry done expired

I clarified that it's more than just tiredness; my sense of urgency has expired.


I’ve lived enough years that I deserve a break,

If I move slow it’s cause a good life can be hard
