Shepherd Song
Discovering Light in Fear: Shepherd's Tale of HopeLyrics
We pressed our faces to the grass
We lowered ourselves to the ground, connecting with nature.
Eyes to earth, but found no shade
We looked down but found no shelter from the intense light.
Such blinding light was not the sun
The brightness was more than just sunlight.
Seized with fear but not to run
Overwhelmed by fear but not paralyzed, we didn't flee.
A fear that made our fears afraid
A fear so powerful that it subdued our other fears.
Do not, do not be afraid
Encouragement not to be afraid.
Today is born the Lord your Savior

Don't look in a prince's nursery

But in the barn where cattle feed

Peace on whom He favors
Peace is bestowed on those favored by Him.
We left our flocks to tend themselves
We abandoned our responsibilities to see Him.
And ran all night how far, how fast
We ran swiftly and far, responding to His call.
He called us past hotels and bars
He guided us past worldly distractions like hotels and bars.
Shepherds, wise men, even stars
Various figures—shepherds, wise men, even stars—return to Him.
Back to himself again at last
Reunion with Him, finding purpose again.
Is this the long expected one
Questioning if this is the anticipated Messiah.

Can this be Israel's future King

Will he ever be received
Wondering if He will be accepted by others.
