As I am stuck behind this glass
Feeling confined or restricted, separated from others.
I see the people walking past
Observing people passing by from behind the glass.
They all are looking back at me
People are noticing and looking back at the speaker.
What to them seems like a stage
Others see the situation as a performance or show.
To me in fact feels like a cage

As I have nowhere else to be

Yet they seem to think that I am more than just a beast

In my eyes they recognize their own humanity

All I wish for is to be among them there

They all just seem to make them smile

These walls around me are quite high

If I would climb them I could die

Then I have been for a while
Having been in this confined state for a significant period.
There are many things I could become and I could be
Reflecting on potential identities or roles within and beyond the confinement.
In my climb they recognize their own mortality
Others acknowledge their own mortality through the speaker's struggles.
Were I free than that would mean I'm free to be alone
Freedom could mean solitude, suggesting a complex relationship with liberation.
In this cage I find this place to be my own
Finding a sense of ownership or belonging within the confines.
