Who are marching

On an endless path or journey.
There are some of us
Some individuals deviate or wander away.
Who stray off to the side
Stray from the established route.
Down the road

Which forks and bends
That offers multiple choices.
In the name of independence
Acting in the pursuit of freedom and self-governance.
In the name of other truths
In pursuit of alternate, perhaps personal, truths.
Abandoning the temples
Leaving behind established religious or revered places.
And the shrines
Abandoning places of worship and reverence.
In the name of our youth
Acting in the name of the younger generation.
And we shout the word 'Freedom'
Expressing loudly the desire for liberty.
Clutching banners in our grip
Holding on to symbols of protest or assertion.
But we're just slaves crawling
However, despite this, feeling constrained or subservient.
Westwards on an eastern bound ship
Traveling in the wrong direction despite efforts.
But we'll keep the fires burning inside
Determined to maintain enthusiasm or passion.
Bringing life up to the boil
Attempting to keep spirits high and active.
You say we'll get our fingers burned
Being warned of potential harm but refusing to give in.
But we won't give up the fight
Committing to continue the struggle despite uncertainties.
Though the future's black as night
Despite a seemingly grim future, hope exists.
The stars are shining bright
Optimism or positive aspects remain evident.
