Lyrics

Our local picture house was showing a Batman movie

Attending a local cinema showing a Batman movie

You see this guy fly up in the sky, thought to myself, 'Why shouldn't I?'

Reflecting on the idea of flying like Batman

So I bought a pair of wings, went up upon a wall

Purchasing wings and preparing to jump from a wall

I was about to jump into the air when a guy from the street called

Interrupted by a passerby before attempting the jump

He said, 'Hey wait a minute! Don't you realize the danger?

Warning about the danger and questioning the person's identity

What do you think you are, some kind of angel?'

Challenging the person's self-perception as an angel

I considered for a minute, realized he spoke the truth.

Accepting the truth and acknowledging youthful appearance

For the barbells on my eyelids only emphasized my youth

Comparing the weight of barbells on eyelids to aging

And the sawdust in my plimsolls means the same to him as me

Equating sawdust in plimsolls to shared experiences

But that's neither here nor further, so I spoke considerately

Addressing the situation with consideration

Now if you understand just what I'm trying to say,

Encouraging understanding and secrecy

Whatever you do, don't grin, you'll give the game away!'

Warning against revealing one's intentions with a grin

By now a crowd had gathered and it seemed that all was lost

A crowd forms, and the situation appears dire

In the anger of the moment I had diced with death and lost

Expressing a close call with death in the heat of anger

It seemed to me the time was right so I burst into song

Spontaneously breaking into song amidst the turmoil

In the anger of the moment the crowd began to sing along

The crowd joins in the singing, altering the mood

I could not see a way out of this predicament

Feeling trapped with no apparent solution

Just then a breeze came through the trees and up in the air I went

A sudden breeze lifts the person into the air

I must have flown a mile, or maybe it was eight

Experiencing a significant distance while airborne

Thought to myself pretty soon I'd hit the Golden Gates

Anticipating reaching a heavenly or desirable destination

Just then a passing bird for no reason I could see

An unexpected attack from a bird leads to a downfall

Took a peck at my wings and that was the end of me

Reflecting on the sudden end caused by an unforeseen event

I went down, hit the ground faster than the speed of sound

Falling rapidly and impacting the ground without serious injury

Luckily I broke no bones only tore my underclothes

Fortunately avoiding bone fractures but damaging underclothes
