And about the pits being "the mother of the village"

Reflection on the significance of mines as the lifeblood of the village.

And all these phrases that sound all very romantic

Certain phrases may sound romantic, but they convey harsh truths.

But they're not romantic at all, they're true

Romanticized notions are, in fact, stark realities.


I loved the mining industry and I wouldn't have missed it, not for anything

A deep affection for the mining industry despite its challenges.

And I'm so sad and sorry to see that it's gone

Sadness and regret at witnessing the disappearance of the mining industry.
