Engaging in a journey together downstream
A gate of steel, cold and wide
Introducing an imposing steel gate
Rises from the ground
Describing the gate rising from the ground
The birds will never sing again
Expressing a sense of loss – birds won't sing
But we still hear the sound
Despite the loss, the sound is still present
Oh, I can't relate
Expressing difficulty in relating to a specific feeling
To the feeling that I get

When I look into the wake
Observing something in the aftermath
Cities shivering across the lake
Imagery of cities trembling across a lake
Someday, I will row onto the other side

If it were light one would see

The water turning red

But no stars shine today

Clouds overshadowing the scene
Could this last a little longer
Expressing a wish for the current situation to last longer
Maybe we can stay
Suggesting the possibility of staying in the current state
But it comes down, so we run faster
Feeling a sense of urgency as things come down
Faster 'till the morning comes
Running faster, perhaps to escape or confront challenges
Oh, what have we done
Expressing regret or concern about past actions
The feeling that I get
Reiterating the difficulty in relating to a particular feeling
When I look into the wake
Recalling the intense emotional experience
Cities shivering across the lake
Revisiting the imagery of cities trembling across a lake
Someday, I will row onto the other side
